The Competition

National Novices is our annual competition open to all university fencers that have been fencing for less than two years. There are separate men’s and women’s foil competitions. The format is the same as most other competitions with two rounds of poules followed by direct elimination; all competitors will get to fight in at least one DE. Prizes are given to the top 4 fencers in each competition. It’s a great opportunity for novice fencers to fight some new people and learn the format of competitions without the stress of getting beaten in every match. We have also had feedback that it's good practice for the referees as well.

Social

The competition is always followed by a social which usually takes place in the union to allow everyone to relax after what’s always a fun day for all involved.
